Pimelea 'White Jewel' is a low-growing, compact evergreen shrub known for its masses of small white tubular flowers that can appear throughout the year. A cultivar of Pimelea linifolia (Rice Flower), it typically forms a dense, mounding habit reaching 30–50 cm in height and 50–80 cm in width. It is highly valued in Australian gardens as a hardy feature plant for rockeries, borders, or pots, and is particularly noted for its ability to attract butterflies.
Key Characteristics & Growing Conditions
Appearance: Features small mid-green leaves and clusters of "jewel-like" white blooms on the ends of branches.
Environment: Thrives in full sun or light shade and prefers well-drained soil. It is quite hardy, tolerating light frost, salt spray, and moderate drought once established.
Maintenance: Requires minimal work. To maintain its neat, rounded shape and encourage more flowers, it is recommended to lightly prune or tip-prune behind spent flower heads after a flush of blooms.
Usage: Its natural mound-like shape makes it an excellent choice for groundcovers, edging, or as a small feature plant in coastal, cottage, or low-maintenance gardens.
