A$9.00

Scleranthus biflorus, commonly known as Cushion Bush or Canberra Grass, is a hardy Australian native groundcover that forms dense, moss-like mounds of vibrant lime-green foliage. Despite its delicate, "strokable" appearance, it is a tough perennial that naturally thrives in alpine and coastal regions of eastern Australia and New Zealand.

Key Characteristics

  • Appearance: It grows as a low, tight mat, reaching a height of about 5–15 cm and spreading 30–80 cm wide.

  • Flowers: Produces tiny, inconspicuous yellow or pale green flowers in pairs during spring and summer.

  • Versatility: Often used as a "sun-loving moss" substitute in Japanese-style gardens, rockeries, or as an ornamental lawn in low-traffic areas.

Growing Conditions & Care

  • Light: Performs best in full sun, which helps maintain its tight, compact cushion shape.

  • Water: Requires regular moisture, especially during hot, dry spells, though it must be planted in well-drained soil to avoid root rot.

  • Climate: Highly frost-tolerant and can even handle being covered by snow.

  • Maintenance: Generally low-maintenance.
