Kunzea parvifolia, also known as Violet Kunzea, is a wiry shrub with small leaves and pink to purple flowers. It is a member of the myrtle family (Myrtaceae). 

Appearance

  • Wiry shrub that can grow up to 1.5 meters tall and 1 meter wide 

  • Young stems are covered with soft hairs 

  • Leaves are linear to narrow lance-shaped, and pressed against the stem 

  • Flowers are pink to purple, rarely white, and about 8 mm in diameter 

  • Fruit is a capsule that is about 3 mm long and 1.5 mm wide 

Habitat 

  • Found in heath and dry sclerophyll forest

  • Prefers rocky slopes, especially near seepage areas

  • Good habitat for wildlife

Climate 

  • Reliable plant for temperate climates and in all but waterlogged soils

  • Withstands at least moderate frost

Propagation

  • Easy to propagate from both seed and cuttings 

  • If grown from seed, flowering may take 6 years 

  • Cuttings taken from semi-hardwood tip cuttings could produce flowers in one year or two 

Uses Useful low-level cover in windbreaks, Stabilizes soil, and Attractive when flowering.
