A$9.00
Kennedia nigricans, commonly known as the Black Coral Pea, is a vigorous, fast-growing Australian native climber famous for its rare jet-black and yellow flowers. Endemic to the south-west of Western Australia, this "rambunctious" evergreen vine is prized for its ability to quickly cover fences, sheds, and embankments, or act as a dense, weed-suppressing groundcover.
Key Characteristics & Growing Tips
Unique Bloom: Produces striking pea-shaped flowers that are almost entirely black with a bright yellow or lime-green "flash" on the standard petal. It typically flowers from July to November (winter/spring).
Vigorous Growth: It is exceptionally rampant, often reaching heights or widths of 4 to 6 metres. Due to its speed, it is best kept away from delicate trees or buildings where it might overwhelm other plants.
Hardiness: It is highly resilient, tolerating drought, coastal exposure, and light frost.
Wildlife Support: The nectar-rich flowers are a major draw for honeyeaters and other nectar-feeding birds.
Maintenance: To keep it tidy and encourage longevity, it should be pruned back after flowering
Available in a 14 cm pot
