Eucalyptus pulverulenta, also known as Silver-leaved Mountain Gum, is a small tree or mallee with distinctive blue-green leaves and smooth, bronze or greybark. It's a low-maintenance tree that can grow up to 10 meters tall. 

Appearance 

  • Bark: Smooth, bronze to grey, shedding in long ribbons

  • Juvenile leaves: Round to heart-shaped, stalkless, paired, waxy, blue-green

  • Adult leaves: Stalked, oval to lance shaped, dull grey-blue

  • Flowers: Cream-colored, large, produced from September to November

  • Fruit: Large gumnuts

Growth Moderate growth rate, Low maintenance level, Low water usage, and Requires well-drained soil. 

Uses 

  • The gum can be soaked in water and applied to burns, sores, and wounds

  • Very popular as foliage for flower arrangements

Conservation status 

  • Vulnerable under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cwlth) (EPBC Act)

  • Vulnerable under Schedule II of the Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995 (NSW)

Care 

  • Avoid applying too much nitrogen-rich fertilizer

  • Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth appears

  • Watch for signs of leaf spot, powdery mildew, and root rot
