Calothamnus quadrifidus, also known as the one-sided bottlebrush, is a shrub that is native to Western Australia. It has grey-green leaves and red flowers that bloom in the spring and summer. 

Appearance

  • Grey-green, needle-like leaves that are about 30 mm long and 1–2 mm wide 

  • Red, four-part flowers that are clustered in one-sided spikes 

  • Woody capsules that contain seeds for many years 

Uses 

  • Screening, hedging, and windbreaks

  • Controlling soil erosion

  • Beachside areas, roadside plantings, and rural properties

  • Attracting pollinating birds and insects

Growing conditions 

  • Sunny to partly shaded position in well drained soil

  • Tolerates coastal conditions, wind, and drought

  • Responds well to regular pruning
