Bauera rubioides, also known as the river rose or dog rose, is a small, bushy shrub native to Australia. It has wiry stems, small leaves, and pink or white flowers that bloom in the spring and summer. 

Appearance 

  • A scrambling shrub that can grow up to 2 meters tall

  • Wiry, extensively branched stems

  • Small, compound leaves with three leaflets

  • Flowers are cup-shaped to open, with six to eight petals

  • Flowers are usually pink, but can also be white

Growing conditions 

  • Prefers moist, well-drained, acidic soils

  • Tolerates brief winter inundation

  • Tolerates light frost

  • Prefers partial shade, but can grow in full shade
