Banksia petiolaris is a low maintenance, evergreen shrub native to Western Australia. It has dark green leaves, bright yellow flowers, and can spread to cover large areas. 

Appearance

  • Leaves: Large, leathery, serrated, and dull green with a white underside 

  • Flowers: Bright yellow, fragrant, and appear in spring and summer 

  • Inflorescences: Cylindrical and yellow, but fade to greyish as they age 

  • Fruit: Woody seed pods, known as follicles, that are elliptical in shape and covered in fine grey fur 

Growing conditions 

  • Prefers full sun or part shade

  • Tolerates most frost, short wet periods, and extended dry spells

  • Requires well-draining soil

  • Can be used for rockeries, general ground cover, erosion control, and covering embankments
