Banksia hookeriana, also known as Hooker's banksia or Acorn Banksia, is a shrub native to Western Australiia that also does well in Western Victoria. It has long, narrow leaves and large flower spikes that are orange in color. 

Appearance 

  • Long, narrow, serrated leaves

  • Large, bright flower spikes that are initially white and then open to orange

  • Flower heads sit atop sturdy branches

Habitat 

  • Prefers a sunny position

  • Does well in most soils but prefers poorer, sandy or clay soils with very good drainage

  • Drought tolerant

  • Can tolerate light frosts but avoid growing in areas where frosts are prolonged or severe

Uses 

  • Great in borders and as feature plants in gardens

  • Can be grown in smaller gardens due to its compact form

  • One of the most commonly used banksias for cut flowers

  • Attracts all sorts of birds and insects
